We are delighted to announce that EPFL and BAK Economics will team up again to create a 2 ½ day on-site seminar on designing Smart Specialisation Strategies!

Please note:

  • The seminar only will take place with a sufficient number of participants.
  • It will be communicated latest by January 30th if the seminar will take place or not. Please do not make any binding commitments before confirmation.
  • If the seminar will not take place, your seminar fees will be reimbursed fully.

Aim of the seminar

To deepen the knowledge and understanding of the Smart Specialisation concept and to improve the practical skills in designing, managing and implementing a S3 in a personal exchange and the chance to learn from other participant’s experience and exchange on S3 in a practices-oriented network.

Participation requirement

  • It is mandatory that the participant took part in the MOOC on Designing Smart Specialisation Strategies (2017, 2018 or 2019).
  • The participant must attend the seminar in person on site.
  • The seminar will be held in English

Please note

  • The number of participants is limited!
  • The seminar will take place only if a minimum number of participants registers.
  • The maximum of participants is 30.

Session 1 - Wednesday 26.02.2020

  • Introduction & repetition of core principles
  • Personal experience & learning from 5 years of S3 in practice
  • What is new in S3 / RIS3 policies, cohesion policy, etc.?

Session 2 - Thursday 27.02.2020 morning

  • Developing a case study: Organizing a Smart Specialisation Strategy process?

Session 3 - Thursday 27.02.2020 afternoon

  • Case study evaluation
  • Tools and methods: data, evidence and gathering of information
  • Tools and methods: organizing information, "project mapping", process structure, checkboxes, monitoring, etc.
  • Tools and methods: the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process workshops

Session 4 - Friday 28.02.2020 morning

  • Seminar assignment (individual exam, necessary for certificate)

Session 5 - Friday 28.02.2020 afternoon

  • Questions and open issues
  • Feedback

Certicficate

“Certificate of Achievement" in advanced studies from the Formation Continue UNIL-EPFL, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne

The certificate will be issued to everybody who

  • participates personally in at least 4 sessions (including the assignment session) and
  • passed the assignment.

Course fee

The course fee is CHF 2'500
